I believe the only church offices valid for today are elders and deacons, as no one living can qualify to be an apostle. Elders and deacons are both church officers and church officers are those who have been validated as being responsible to minister in ways that serve the whole church (Heb 13:17; Eph 4:11; 1 Tim 3:8-13). The New Testament church is to be led at a local level by a plurality of elders, with deacons ministering in a serving role (Acts 14:23; 20:17; Tit 1:5; 1 Tim 4:14; Jas 5:14; 1 Pet 5:1-2; Phil 1:1). Both men and women are gifted by the Holy Spirit for service in the church (Acts 2:17-18), however, the office of elder (or pastor) is only open to qualified men (1 Cor 14:34-35; 1 Tim 2:11-15; 3:2-7; Tit 1:6-9). I am uncertain as to whether qualified women may serve as deacons. I am still studying the relevant passages (Rom 16:1 and 1 Tim 3:8-13, especially verse 11) but tend to lean towards “yes”.
