Doctrines: ANTHROPOLOGY & HAMARTIOLOGY

I believe the Triune God created humankind in His image on the sixth day of Creation (Gen 1:24-31). God fashioned man from the dirt (Gen 2:7) and then made the woman from the man’s rib (Gen 2:21). Adam and Eve were historical figures and were fully developed humans in every way (Mk 10:6).

I believe sin entered into the human race as a whole (Rom 5:12) when Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden (Gen 3:5-6). Sin is transgression, a wandering away (Ps 119:67), and a refusal to heed God’s holy Law (Jas 1:22-25). Humans are morally depraved, natural enemies of God, and enslaved to sin from birth (Ps 51:5; Eph 2:1-3). Our will is bent on doing wrong and our heart is in rebellion against God (Rom 3:10). Sin breaks our relationships and produces guilt and shame in the conscience. The human race stands justly condemned by God (Rom 1:18) but we can be reconciled to Him if we fall upon His gift of grace by faith alone (Rom 5:10).

Sin results in physical death (Gen 2:17) and the just penalty for sin is eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:12-15). Those who are not His will face separation from God at the Second Death.
