THE DOCTRINE OF CREATION and God's Providence

I believe God brought forth everything that exists ex nihilo (out of nothing) by Divine Fiat; meaning  he spoke it into existence (Ps 33:6, 9; Heb 11:3). God has ceased from His creative activity (Gen 2:2) and all living beings reproduce after their own kind (Gen 1:12, 21, 25). The Father created through the Son and He upholds them by the sheer power of his will (Jn 1:3; Col 1:16-17; Heb 1:3; Rev 4:11). The Holy Spirit was present during creation (Gen 1:2) and He still gives and preserves all life (Ps 104:30). The reason God created all things was for His good pleasure and His glory (Ps 19:1-2; Isa 43:7). I believe a straightforward reading of the relevant biblical data results in viewing the days of Genesis as standard 24-hour days (Ex 20:11) but I also believe we must be charitable in the matter of age/time in Genesis.
GOD’S PROVIDENCE
I believe God is intimately involved with His creation (Neh 9:6); sustaining and upholding it (Col 1:16-17; Heb 1:3). God’s providence is universal and directly touches all creation (Matt 5:45; Ps 104:14). God’s providence precludes luck, chance, or random events (Pr 16:33). This includes the weather (Jb 38:22-30), animals (Matt 10:29), rulers (Pr 21:1), governments (Dan 4:25), food (Ps 145:15), where people live (Acts 17:26), and business (Jas 4:13-15). All events are under God’s total control and he ordains all that takes place in order to accomplish his predetermined plan and goals (Pr 16:9; 19:21; Eph 1:11). I affirm that God exercises total dominion over all events but deny that God is the author of evil (Jas 1:13) and there are examples in redemptive history illustrating how God uses evil for His purposes (Gen 50:20; Job). God’s providential power brings about salvation (Eph 2:8-9) and sanctification (Phil 2:12-13).
