Jesus claimed to be greater than Abraham (John 8:58), Jonah (Matthew 12:41), King Solomon (Matthew 12:42), the Temple (John 12:6) and implied the same about Jacob (John 4:12).

John the Baptist said Jesus was greater than he was in John 1:27 and 3:30 and both Elijah and Moses showed their deference and "approval" to the Messiah at the Mount of Transfiguration in Mark 9:2-8. The Author of Hebrews explains how Jesus is greater than the angels (Ch.1), Moses (Ch.3), or the Old Testament priests (Ch. 5). Lastly, Paul details how Christ is greater than our common forefather Adam in I Corinthians 15:45-49.

The point is this Jesus, the Messiah, is greater than ALL. This could only be unequivocally so if He truly was God in the flesh. What else can Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:23 mean? In these verses Jesus is explicitly referred to as IMMANUEL translated as "God is with us". Jesus Christ is the ONLY one ever worthy to receive this title. This is the key Christian doctrine. The doctrine that saves by the grace imparted to us by the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
